Behind the Brand with Mae Club
Interview with Eloise Long - Founder of Mae Club
Introduce yourself and where are you from?
My name is Eloise. I'm the owner and designer of Mae Club and I'm based in Perth, WA. Growing up with a French mum, I was lucky enough to travel over to France quite a bit growing up. I remember visiting the south of France and falling in love with the different prints and fabrics of the clothes there. This definitely sparked a love for creating the summery vacation style pieces that I make today and trying to capture a summer moment through clothing.
How did Mae Club come about?
I've always been super creative since I was a little girl. Basically anything I got my hands on I would create something and this grew into more when I got my own sewing machine and started creating my own clothes. I then went and studied fashion at university and through creating my collection there I decided the kind of brand and style I wanted to create once I finished.
What inspires your designs?
When it comes to designing I love to create pieces that are summery and when you look at them you just feel like you're on a holiday. I also love to add little design details that just make our pieces different to what's out there. We take a slow fashion approach as well and like to create pieces that are forever lasting and well finished. Something that you see as an investment piece rather than fast fashion.
What did you do to create your brand in the begining?
When it came to creating the brand I felt the best thing to do at the beginning was chat to a few people who had been in a similar position to me and I always found that I learned something from them. I then started speaking to a local factory, showing them my designs and they helped me with sampling, pattern making and just everything that came with the process which was really great and I think through doing everything locally i was able to be there every step of the way and learn and there's just so much i took from that experience.
What is your future vision for Mae club?
I am super excited to see what the future holds for Mae Club. We've definitely got a few collections on the way that i can't wait to share with everyone and so far i'm just so grateful for the community that we have built and i cant wait to see it grow and to see more and more girls out there wearing our brand.
