Shes a Designer: behind the brand
Interview with Kyra Andrews - Founder of Shes A Designer
How did Shes A Designer come about?
Since i was a little girl i've always loved being creative and making cute little outfits for myself. I ended up getting into study fashion design at UTS. Becoming a fashion designer and creating my own brand has always been a goal of mine. The story of Shes A Designer all started with my little denim leg warmers i made and wore to a festival. I had so many people ask me to make them a pair so i thought why not turn this into my own business.
What was the first step you took in starting your brand?
The first step i took was to design and sketch a collection created from the first idea which was denim. From there i got creative, came up with a brand name, designed my own website and planned my very first shoot. For this collection i actually thrifted all my denim pieces and re purposed them to make garments as Shes A Designer values sustainability in all aspects of design. From here i put together a design room for myself and and got to work with all the sewing.
Whats your proudest moment working on the brand so far?
I think my proudest moment would probably be the custom fashion week outfits i made for Karla as she's one of my closest friends i was so excited to be able to dress her for these fashion shows and its something ive worked super hard on. It was such a special moment seeing my designs come to life and its something ill never forget.
Have you had any challenges so far?
The most challenging part of running my own brand is trying to juggle my studies at uni as well as keeping up with the admin and orders for Shes A Designer. Its super hard running a business all by yourself but i stay motivated because i love what i do and i'm always striving to grow and do the best
Whats your future vision?
Whats your future vision for Shes A Designer is to have its own runway show one day. That would be an absolute dream. From there i hope to see it grown and be worn by a celebrity like Bella Hadid because she's my muse and a massive inspiration to my brand.
