Sage Avenue: behind the brand

Interview with Priya McPherson - Founder of Sage Avenue

How did you get your brand name and what does it mean to you?

How did i get the name Sage, its a very good question and i actually got the name of Sage because i always had a notes list on my phone that was like girls names that i wanted to name my kids when i'm older and boys names. and when i knew i wanted to start a business i went straight to this list and i was like what name do i like and Sage was always the number one name for me. When i started to look into the meaning of sage i cant tell you i related to something so much more deeper. Sage leaves people tend to burn sage leaves to clear negative energy in a space and welcome new positive energy. I wanted to have a welcoming and positive environment for everyone. so yeah i first loved the name from a list but i grew to love it and found myself more connected to it once i researched into it.

How did Sage start?

I realised like what made me feel confident at the start of the day was the simple like notion of getting ready in the morning. So when you put a whole outfit together you look in the mirror and you are like dam i look good. you spark this inner confidence within you and its only something tat you've been able to do your yourself. i knew i had to dive deeper into what this ment for me. So i started to look at my style and what would give me that pop to give me the confidence. i am so blessed my mum has the most beautiful collection of vintage and new bags. so i would always stick my fingers through to find a bag that i would love and i would put it on and look in the mirror and be like oh my god my outfit is complete. it was this bag that completed my outfit and that is when i actually came up with the idea of sage - statement minimalistic bags made for the purpose of empowerment.

Whats your advice for other people wanting to start their own business?

Don't try to jump in anyones race and when i say that don't try to jump in anyone else's style, do what works for you because everything is going to flow so much better when it comes from within you. If you're trying to follow someone else trend of being stylish well you're not going to be able to create that because no one can be the exact same as the next person to the left. So you just need to be really conscious of sticking aligned to yourself and sticking true to your own style, your own values and your own view in life. It's really important so keep that in mind.
